And despite all this I still love Jace and Clary more. I will be reading City of Bones while up in Alaska. After Wizard's First Rule, of course.
Ah... exhaustion in the morning. I just don't wake up that easy and waking up at 6AM is even harder. But I did it and I paid a high price. I couldn't keep my head up, nodding off every few moments until nearly 11AM. I fell asleep on my feet while awaiting the Twilight Autograph Raffle... and I didn't win a spot. D, who got me a choice seat in Hall H, then had to sit elsewhere, let me crash in his lap at one point and Alex who works for Access Hollywood, filmed me sleeping on the sidewalk. It was a terrible morning. I really just cannot function if I don't sleep until I wake up naturally. Augh.
But then the day started to pick up and get fun and I was a little less comatose for it. Hall H was impossible to get into with a line that snaked around the little yard next to the convention center and then behind it. Belle, Susan and I had the honors of making it last a long time because Belle and I cut, while Sus was a good girl and went to the back of the line. When we spotted her we joined her and increased our time in the line.
The first panel of the day was for the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still starring Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly. I wasn't too impressed. The clips show Keanu doing his normal unemotional and uninspired acting which just leaves me cold. Jennifer Connelly didn't really get much face time in the clips nor in the panel so I have nothing much to say about her. The movie comes out the same date as Twilight and I have high hopes that Twilight will kill it.
After that was the Max Payne panel and I am so awaiting this movie. I usually love Mark Wahlberg movies and I feel no shame in admitting that. The movie is based on the
video game and I've never played it but I am assuming that Max Payne is a force to be reckoned with. Mila Kunis, Chris Bridges--formerly known as Ludicris, are also in the cast. Mark boldly claimed the talent of Chris, saying he did an incredible job. The clips they showed were action packed. A lot of bullets flying and people dying. Again I really liked this one and I will be awaiting it's release in October. I hope that Mark takes his shirt of at some point to add to the goodness of the movie.
The next panel was for the movie Push starring Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Camilla Belle and Djimon Hounsou. The director, Paul McGuigan was also on the panel. I wasn't sure about the movie at first but the clips that they showed sold me on it.The one clip showed Dakota and Chris in a fish market in Hong Kong and they run into these bad guys and fishtanks are exploding all around them. It sounds silly when I say it but it was really intriguing. Chris Evans is really too hot.
I wasn't really into the Nicholas Cage movie, Knowing. It looks interesting but I'm not a Cage fan. The premise is something I would want to read about though. It's too bad its a movie.
Finally it was time for Twilight and I was so not disappointed. The venue quivered and squeed as the cast, Stephenie and Catherine came out. I sadly can't tell you much of what they talked about because I was so excited I really don't know that I was of sound mind. I do remember Catherine intimating that Rob was doing Bella's Lullaby. I know that Rob wants Taylor to take his shirt off. There is a pervert of a TwiMom out there who asked a 16 year old boy if he wears boxers or briefs and asked Kristen if she knew if Rob did. When a fan yells that they love Rob, his answer is 'Good'. Cam wants to come back next movie despite the fact that his character dies in this movie. Rob thinks Rachelle is smarter than him. Rob looked adorable and humble and shy. Alex interviewed him for Access Hollywood and I'm anxious to see that article. Catherine wasn't asked that many questions. Stephenie pushed Breaking Dawn saying her favorite Edward and Bella moment was in the fourth book. Kristen looked really good. She was nervous and fidgety though. It looked endearing rather than unprofessional. Cam looked really good and his humor really came out. Rachelle is always so eloquent and gorgeous. Edi did get to answer a few questions and it was the first time I really have ever heard him speak. And Taylor looked so so young and shiny and new.
Vox isn't letting me add any more pictures to this post so I will start a new one with the rest of the day and the Twilight photos.
Today was Twilight Tuesday and Larry Carroll delivered some behind the scenes stuff. The first blog is about the Cullen Family Crest. The other is interviews and clips regarding the direction away from the book. Catherine Hardwicke talks about how the film can show in seconds something that might take the book 25 pages to say. The one clip is behind the scenes at the field trip to the green house and how Bella is trying to get Edward to tell her how he stopped Tyler's van. I have a little wibble with the delivery of Edward's line about it being adrenaline and how it's not uncommon, that she should look it up on Google. It just bothers me. I don't know if it's Rob there or the line itself. I do like the idea that they have this talk somewhere other than the hospital. I think that is what I think, for right now atleast. Who knows I'm fickle maybe it will bother me more later.

On to another book. I finally read Highlander Ever After, which is the third and final book, by Jennifer Ashley, about Nvengarians. It was a really fast read. It seemed like chapters just flew by. I liked Egan from previous books and he was a little more sensitive and less the mad highlander so that was different. You hear a lot about Zarabeth in the first two books and it's interesting to finally meet her in the third. I felt a little like her character wasn't as developed as it could have been. I didn't get why he was in love with her. I did like the idea of the magic, but as a witch, I think Zarabeth should have used it more often. I would have also liked to hear more about this connection that Egan and Zarabeth share when one of them is in danger. It's just a romance novel though so I guess I can't really complain.
I picked up Blood and Chocolate and started reading it but I was feeling the effects of the new medication and almost fell asleep with my face in the book. I think I will have to go back and read it all over again. I also got further in Fragile Things. I didn't think I would read more of it but I have been. I think I even liked the one story, The Flints of Memory Lane. There are currently 8 books in my to read pile. Coraline, Atonement, Sebastian, Belladonna, City of Bones, Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town, Lock and Key and Tithe. I'm not so sure about the Cory Doctorow book. It sounds a bit out there... we will have to wait and see.
Tonight I think David and I are going to watch Enchanted. Last summer was hard with me always being in the hospital so I didn't get to see it then. It's weird not having hockey to watch anymore. I miss Vesa. I guess this just gives me more time to read.
Pride is this weekend and Sunday is the parade and I would really like to go and see it finally. It means waking up early which I proved I could do last week. I want to take tons of pictures. We will have to see if it happens.
Going back to my Stephenie Meyer obsession, there is an excellent NPR story on her here. I love how much attention she is getting. I really do hope that this gets the fires burning so that when the movie comes out there is a real buzz going and it succeeds. I worried when I read the production budget went from 35 million to 60 million. That made it all that many more seats that have to be filled. And I don't want the movie to just break even, I want the franchise. I worry for it. I need to up my Geodon.
I got to discuss Twilight in therapy today. We talked about what I'm drawn to and what I relate to in the stories. I felt a little ridiculous explaining that there were vampires and werewolves and mind readers and psychics. I tried to explain New Moon and I think I got carried away. But it was good. I know some of the reasons why I am so wrapped up in it. And then when I went to the gym I listened to the audiobook of Twilight while I rode the bike for 13 miles. That is 40 minutes in case you were wondering, and I still am in chapter 1.
When I got home tonight, after I studied for my test, I checked my Google Reader and found that MTV already posted their Twilight Tuesday article. I love the video below. It would be that he doesn't want kids when I am already married. *sigh* Can I have a multiple marriage? I could suck at being a wife to two guys at one time. The beginning is Catherine Hardwicke talking about the music for the soundtrack and then Ashley Greene talking about her hair before it gets to Rob.
Jason is going to read Twilight with me and we are going to actually discuss the reading. I am looking forward to this. It is like seeing the book for the first time all over again. It will be a challenge for me to not spoil things. I know the significance of small comments. I will have to curb the urge to point them out. The book really is better the more you read it. You can, and I guess to some extent are supposed to miss the signs and little things the first time. You are just as clueless as Bella. So in the first reading when Bella enters Biology and Edward is looking at her with hateful eyes, you just miss the importance of the fact that she notes that he isn't moving as if he weren't even breathing. You miss the amused chuckle when Bella asks Edward how is night was--not knowing he spent it watching her. I love the book even better having had the second read. Everyone should have to read it twice... or at least listen to the audiobook after.
I feel like I'm not being grateful. I got the interviews and these articles and Greetings From Twilight is up and yet I keep wondering what new Twilight news will be there tomorrow. I know that not everyday is going to be choc-a-block with new things. And if I am to actually pass my exam on Wednesday then I need to refocus for a little while. It's just so rewarding to get something and let's be honest... it's nice to be rewarded. But maybe with fewer postings of Twilight related things I will start Voxing about life more and fantasy less. But I do love my escape. A LOT.
Okay I am a little fangirl about all things Twilight related. The 20 odd tabs I have open in my browser with assorted Twilight links make for the inability of my denial. I thought I would post a bunch that have me especially excited so when I look back to reread this I can compare it to what I see in the movie when it comes out.
I love this video. I have watched it dozens of times. I think it focuses a bit much on the action scene with the hunter, but if that is the footage they have then that is what they have to show. I do love the kiss between Edward and Bella in the screen cap to the right. I know D finds it funny in a cheesy way but I think the "spidermonkey" line is starting to grow on me. I also love the way they look touchy feely in the shot. I sort of wish a little that it had been in the book.
The one thing that really worries me is the "nomads", as they are being called. That isn't the wrong name for them but it sounds sort of cheap to me. I am understanding the casting choice for Laurent, especially after Heather and D drummed the reason into my head but that doesn't mean that it sits well with me. But since the demographic is important we will take the dark headed sexy man out of the picture and replace him with the black guy dressed like Prince. But Rachelle Lefevre is just diabolically gorgeous and from her one interview, hopelessly Canadian.
The one interview that I saw today that I really loved was the MTV one with KStew and RPattz. I found it endearing that Rob is so deprecating. I was over the moon to hear that the meadow scene had not been shot yet. To me the one everyone was talking about was too dark and overcast. It also made me laugh when I read Kristen mention vampire sex. Although I don't feel right about her still. She is 18, speaks like a 30 year old, looks to be in her 20's. I don't get Bella when I look at her. I hope that the two of them have magic on camera and it lays to rest all these glaring 'noes' I am having regarding her casting.
The other MTV article from today that had me over the moon was the one regarding the LULLABY!!! I have been both heartbroken and anxious since Belle originally told me that rumor was that the lullaby was to be cut. It is key to so many other parts of the books and storyline. To cut it would leave an aching chasm. So it was with joy that I read today that the lullaby was in and apparently Hardwicke, crackpot that she is, has asked Rob to compose it. Now from the article it doesn't sound like he has it in the bag, No. It sounds like he's getting a shot at it. I sort of hope he blows it out of the water, as I am dying to hear something by him. Although another part of me worries that he could be another Hasselhoff. Not really good in anyone's minds but the Germans.
Yesteday this interview surfaced and I really enjoyed it. Something about Rob admitting that his deep dark secret is that he's a complete dick just makes me smile. And the boy puts so much time and thought into answering. He's not just playing the part for the cameras, he really seems to be a real person. It's nice to see someone being real and not another cookie cutter.
