Now I am looking forward to the new year. It will be my new slate on my book tracker. I started it in September and I've read 89 books in 16 weeks. The new one will be for 52 weeks and I am ready to devour books in the new year. Maybe I will set a goal of something like 25 books a month. I want to be sure I read things other than fantasy too. So in the new year I am going to hope to mix things up. Of course saying that all the books in my pile to be read next are fantasy save for 1 which is a romance. I still haven't read Moby Dick. Oh and I will be finishing Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde before the end of the year. Even if the very act kills me.
On Saturday while out running errands D bought me new shoes and I love them. I have a really bad habit of buying shoes that I sometimes never wear. But I've already wore these so that shouldn't be a problem with these.. Ofcourse I keep all the original boxes for my shoes so when I'm done I can take them to the Goodwill in a tidy fashion. How do normal people house their shoes? Or a better question is how many pairs is normal to have? Not that I'm Amelda Marcos, she opened her shoes--so clearly, I'm not. I might be like her disciple.
They are making Edward and Bella dolls and I want them. I don't think they will be available until Spring and I don't know how much they will be yet. I hope they aren't too much. I did get my Twilight Trading Cards and I am totally confounded by how they came. I opened the packing box and it was full of packing peanuts so I dug around and came up with a box that was how the packets came, full of opened packets of cards. Then there was a collection of random non-Twilight cards, including a magnet with maybe Jensen Ackles on it, a Sponge Bob card and some others. Then there was one Twilight card in a sleeve. And finally a packet of Veronica Mars Trading Cards. Dig further down in the peanuts is a case with the Twilight cards. I haven't looked at the yet but I plan to pour through them. Maybe when Belle is over today because she will get a kick out of looking at the scenes on them. We all are going to see a movie later tonight and we might go movie hopping to see Twilight again it will be the 11th time for me. I guess now you can just say it's a gratuitous experience.
There are new Guild episodes and I'm behind, Zaboo could be running amok. Felicia Day looks less cute this season. Robin Thorsen who plays Clara is getting a world's worth of good lines. Bladezz is still only seen for half a second. But still worth a watch even if you aren't an MMOG.
Today was a really busy day. We had to get me shoes for D's work Christmas party and I chose shoes that I don't believe I will wear that often over the ones I loved. I really regret getting them. The other ones were even on sale. I love shoes but why do they have to be such a labour when choosing them? Then we had to go to the comic book store and now we are up to date on Spike, Buffy and Angel. Our next mission is to actually read them. We are about five issues behind on Angel. Appalling. Then we went to Petco and got a friend for Nate. I haven't named him yet because I'm leaning towards either Jace or Seth, after Jace Wayland from The Mortal Instruments or Seth from Wicked Lovely and I would be heartbroken if I had to say either of them had died. So for now my little black moor goldfish is Little Fish. Then we went grocery shopping which was an ordeal because I was there. It had to be twice as expensive because I like to shop off the shopping list. It's like I'm the bane of D's life at times. I did get pickles, silk nog and raspberry sherbet. Score! Then we had to go to the boss's Christmas party. I was not excited about it because I have the social graces of a rock. He did have a nice house and the fresh pineapple was yummy. I even had a glass of bubbly and reminded myself that I find champagne god awful. We came home and made french toast with cinnabon bread. D's a master chef and it was so good. Oh and in between the grocery store and the party I wrapped D's Christmas gifts and I love Christmas. I keep wanting to talk to him about them and that would just be bad. I'm so excited for Christmas when he will open them and hopefully like them. I know three things that he will love. The rest is all up to the gods.
I have been reading some the last few days. I read both Novel of the Darkyn books I had and they were sort of disappointing. I will read the others in the series but these books were highly recommended for being good vampire books and they just aren't. I also read the first Others book, Wolf at the Door by Christine Warren and it was a good fantasy romance. The writing is sort of mediocre and the story isn't what I would call original but it had something to offer. Last night I started Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning and I was sort of blown away. I only got 70 pages in but the style and tone is incredible. It's categorized as romance but there isn't any romance in it so far and I would classify it as fantasy/suspense. It reminds me if you were to take Sookie Stackhouse books and Dante Valentine books and then threw in faeries, but better written then the two, then that is how I would describe it. I plan to read Stone of Tears by Terry Goodkind this week. I don't know if I am ready for it but I don't think I ever will be. I'm just going to have to jump in.
Tomorrow I'm meeting Team Logan at Mo's in Burbank at lunch. Tam will be there and I haven't seen her since last Christmas. I'll get to show Belle my new silver nail polish. She will love it. I hope to make plans with Susan and Belle to get lunch or dinner this week sometime. I don't see the group, well hardly ever. It'll be good to touch bases.
I have to sleep sometime soon. I am not tired. It's 3:30 in the morning. My sleep is a mess. Stupid red eye. I haven't been the same since. I doubt sitting here listening to music and updating my last.fm helps.
Alaska in 17 hours. I was up at 3AM this morning. I don't know if it is mental retardation or pre-travel nerves but I was bright eyed and alert in the early hours of the AM. Which is really nice so that I can shower before we have to leave. I wanted to last night but read above of near narcoleptic hoo-haw. Alaska. I am so very excited. Although I can't even conceive of how cold it is going to be. Not even in a nightmare can I imagine. I hope it doesn't hurt. I have such thin SoCal blood these days. There will be a million pictures I think.
I haven't read a book in 4 days. It feels absolutely unnerving. I tried to read Amelia Atwater-Rhodes book Hawksong today in the waiting room before therapy but the receptionist are the most annoyingly chatty people on earth and I kept getting distracted. I only read 3 pages before listening to the audiobook of City of Bones which reminds me that I have to at City of Ashes audiobook to my iPhone because I'm close to finishing City of Bones. And D is excited because I am going to start Wizard's First Rule as I promised. I have been liking Legend of the Seeker and where as I do understand the two are only losely related I still like it. I want to see the romance part of the story. Go Richard. I did also bring two other books that I can't remember and City of Bones. I brought 4 books for 6 days and Wizard's First Rule is a thousand or so pages. Luckily it's dark for 20 hours a day.
And despite all this I still love Jace and Clary more. I will be reading City of Bones while up in Alaska. After Wizard's First Rule, of course.
I don't really hold my early morning against D. It's not his fault that I made plans to see Kev today. Things just metered out in my having to go to work with him. So I'm bright eyed and my tail is more fluffy then bushy, but I'm here. All hail the god of the morning, which ever one may apply. So yes I plan to go to Palm Springs today. I did not bring my camera and my phone is dying. So poor planning on my part. But I will get to meet Ja and maybe see Kev's folks. It'll be a little like having a piece of home here in Cali. And I'll get to see the desert and maybe the Salton Sea.
So on the way in today we started listening to City of Bones. I know, it's unnatural to be so fixated on a book, true? But I am and it is wonderfully wonderful. I have already started noticing a bunch of things that I missed in my initial reading. She's sneaky and puts a bunch of things in the first few chapters that are hints to things later on. I didn't realize Magnus Bane gets a mention in the second chapter. And Jace. Jace, Jace, Jace... he is wicked hot from the first interaction. The things I want to do with this fictional character haven't been realized yet. This book is so damn good. And I don't want to listen to Belle when she tells me that Clary and Jace will never be together. I'd rather hear that Edward and Bella get a divorce.
As for books most recently read... I read the second in the Hathaways books by Lisa Kleypas, called Seduce Me At Sunrise and I loved Merripan more in this book than the first. Win was sort of lost in the telling. Not much happens from her perspective and that was sad. There was a lot from Cam's perspective and that makes sense in light of his connection to Kev. It was a very good book and I am hoping that the third book will be Leo's because in every page he was on he stole your attention. I don't really care about Beatrix or Poppy. I have loved this world Kleypas has made since the Wallflowers books and to see so many of the early characters making appearances is nice.
As for a check in on me. I am feeling okay. I've been dealing with some urges to cut lately and it's distracting as all hell. I haven't given in to these urges but I want to. During therapy this week I agreed to the assignment to write a story in the form of a children's tale. I decided it would be a fairy tale, but I haven't written anything yet. I keep putting it off a day and that doesn't seem to be working for me. Maybe I will start it today when I have time to kill and D's computer to work on. Procrastination be damned.
Today Acheron came out and D took me to get it this evening. It is hardcover and huge--just when I was coming off of reading the epic tale of Bella and Edward too. I have to read it by Friday so that I can tell Sherri what I think of it at the book signing. I am so torn because Acheron is not one of my favorite characters so it being his book sort of ways on me. Like this will be a chore. But Sherri said, at Comic Con, that this book has everyone in it because Ash is such a central character. I'm looking for Urian, Valerius and Tabitha, Kyrian and Amanda, Wren and Maggie, Fang and Aimee, Alexion and Danger and Sin and Kat. Oh and Jaden, Simone and Xypher. I can only hope that all of them will make it into the book. I think Wren will definitely be in Fang and Aimee's book but I don't know about Acheron's. So I'm thinking of giving myself a break tonight and reading a Jill Shalvis book I bought and starting Acheron tomorrow. I may even take it with me to the Stephanie Meyer signing on Thursday night. There is so much going on in the next few days I am a little scared that I won't get to finish it in time. Compound that with the fact that I'm only minimally jazzed about it. *sigh*
The other day at the release party for Breaking Dawn I bought a bunch of books that I clearly don't need... A couple Sarah Dessen books, The Vampire Diaries and Vampire Kisses. Does anyone see an overall theme to this post? Do I read books other than vampire books? I definitely do, it just really doesn't seem so lately. HAHA and thinking about it right now, I bought two more Sookie Stackhouse books tonight too. I am not a weird vampire lover. I feel really weird about all these books now but anyway. I haven't started on any of them yet because I also have a kajillion Harlequin Blaze books to read and they go into the bathtub better than bigger books. Very few of them are about vampires. 2 that I have read so far, but the majority is not. So take that my growing reputation as a lover of the bump in the night. *sigh* That sounds dirty now. I feel like I'm giving the wrong impression all over the place.
Okay here is something nonvampire related. I just read these three books by Sydney Croft and they were paranormal military romances. Very down and dirty. Not at all what I expected. I thought they would be more like Stephanie Tyler's other Navy SEAL stuff but it wasn't even a little like it. I am so out to lunch on whether or not I liked these books that I couldn't even BookMooch them. I set them aside to ruminate on keeping them or not. They are just so raw and the character situations are just out there... but I do suspect that I will read the next book Taming the Fire when it comes out next year. I did like the character Remy a whole lot and I loved Wyatt. I think the jury will let me know my opinion on everything later. Maybe it's better that way. Sometimes I get attached to books for the wrong reasons.
AH Wednesday, the first day of Comic Con. D and I left LA about 9:30 and headed down to SD even though we knew we wouldn’t get in until 6PM… But I wanted to scope out some Veronica Mars locations. So we are going through San Juan Capistrano when D sees the sign for the mission and of course I want to stop. I’ve never seen the SNC mission. It was absolutely stunning. I loved it. I would like to go back sometime with a picnic basket and sit out in the garden. I bought magnets from the gift shop. I took a million pictures of which I will only post more than a few.
After we got down here to SD we had to find WiFi to get to Wendy’s VM locations page. That was harder than one would imagine. Thank god for Denny’s. And I never thought I would say that. They have wireless and we were able to select a few places. We went to St. Didacus Church which was the Fitzpatrick’s church in season 3. Then we went to what was supposed to be The River Styx, but that address turned out to be a bust. There was no 3151 University and what would have been the next nearest address was a CVS. Then we went to Balboa Park to El Prado where Duncan was when he was supposed to be in Cuba. I had to guesstimate the location though. I think I got it right. There is one more location I want to see but it wasn’t in the area that we were in so we are going to catch it on our way home. It’s the Kane Software location.
We got to the convention center at 4:30 and got our badges and waited in a horrific line for four forevers before we got into the Exhibit Hall. I had to go right to the Summit Booth and I got my pictures taken with their cut-outs. I spun there wheel and won a Push t-shirt. Big disappointment. D got me Twilight trading cards. He also won a air freshner… Big disappointment. We met up with Alex and walked the floor. I bought my sister a couple of Gwen Stefani dolls. Then we went to see the Fringe screening. I really liked it. Not so hot on the female lead but Josh Jackson was so good in it. I also like the crazy scientist. I am going to look to download the pilot somewhere
because I would just love to see it again. And the end is so tricksome. You won’t see it coming. Or at least I didn’t.Tomorrow is an early morning. I want to be in line for Hall H early and I definitely want to be in the Sails Pavilion for the drawing for Twilight autographs. Crossing all crossable parts to win a place in the line for meeting Rob.
I am so many days behind and have so much to muse on that I am bouncing off the walls to write this. I'll start by saying that I did go to the Results Show for So You Think You Can Dance. I am really proud of Belle and I for correctly guessing the bottom three and who would be voted off the show. Although the later wasn't much of a stretch of the imagination. I had a great time though, even though we had the world's most annoying guy in front of us. I would love to go and do it again. Without the sunburn though. My arm is still an alarming scarlet color.
This week Entertainment Weekly released a cover with Robert Pattinson and
Kristen Stewart and it is CRACK. And I don't mean that like it's a good thing. No. Number one for me is that Edward doesn't have pretty blue eyes and Bella isn't supermodel-like. No, that is all someones bad dream. I read somewhere someone called him a hairy powdered donut and that makes me laugh, but I can see it. I think it's a nice attempt to get Twilight some early love but it was poorly executed. Very poorly. The other images from the magazine are nice enough. The one with Rob carrying Kristen is especially nice. I think I will make that one my new layout image for my phone and this journal... the second is a bit photoshop-ed to the silly but it's still a nice enough depiction. Somewhere there is a femi-nazi looking at them saying they clearly show his abusive tendencies. I did buy mine, 2 actually so I can see the hairy powdered donut up close. The Promo to Penelope has been leaked and it's a cute minute long thing of behind the scenes action. There was another with them doing a scene where he is bringing her to the Cullen's home and then where he is dancing with her in his room and they were more "pay-dirt" than this one but they have been pulled from YouTube by Summit for copyright infringement. I got this one though and uploaded to my own server so no one would yank it on me down the line.
But wait it doesn't stop there... More Twilight related stuff. Today D and I were at the Apple store at the Grove at 6:30AM to get in line for the new iPhones. This guy arrived about 7 on crutches and he juggled a coffee while trying to stand up without them. Did I recognize him then, no. No it was about 9:30 when D asked me if he was someone and I took a really good look at him and realized he was Cam Gigandet. The things I did notice about him is that he is hott in person, he smokes, a lot and he did something to his right leg and spent a lot of time pacing with his crutches. He was about 10 people behind us in line and I didn't feel comfortable approaching him so I just took really bad photos of him. Maybe a braver soul would have said hi, but that soul so wasn't me.
Also in line was Adam Goldberg and he was taking pictures with people in line near him but we weren't in the same line so that never became an option. He looks exactly as he does in the movies.
Last night after we got home we watched Shoot 'Em Up and it was a classic. The lines are so cheesy they are brilliant and the parts with the baby and Clive Owen are just priceless. I decided that we need to own this movie. Monica Bellucci as a lactating prostitute who Owens falls for is just a hilarious premise and the movie delivers.
So, I've had SYTYCD shows, movies, new iPhones, movie star sightings and tons of things on the internet to entertain me. Not to mention I have been reading romance novels one after another again. So is it surprising it took me a few days to post?
Today was Twilight Tuesday and Larry Carroll delivered some behind the scenes stuff. The first blog is about the Cullen Family Crest. The other is interviews and clips regarding the direction away from the book. Catherine Hardwicke talks about how the film can show in seconds something that might take the book 25 pages to say. The one clip is behind the scenes at the field trip to the green house and how Bella is trying to get Edward to tell her how he stopped Tyler's van. I have a little wibble with the delivery of Edward's line about it being adrenaline and how it's not uncommon, that she should look it up on Google. It just bothers me. I don't know if it's Rob there or the line itself. I do like the idea that they have this talk somewhere other than the hospital. I think that is what I think, for right now atleast. Who knows I'm fickle maybe it will bother me more later.

On to another book. I finally read Highlander Ever After, which is the third and final book, by Jennifer Ashley, about Nvengarians. It was a really fast read. It seemed like chapters just flew by. I liked Egan from previous books and he was a little more sensitive and less the mad highlander so that was different. You hear a lot about Zarabeth in the first two books and it's interesting to finally meet her in the third. I felt a little like her character wasn't as developed as it could have been. I didn't get why he was in love with her. I did like the idea of the magic, but as a witch, I think Zarabeth should have used it more often. I would have also liked to hear more about this connection that Egan and Zarabeth share when one of them is in danger. It's just a romance novel though so I guess I can't really complain.
I picked up Blood and Chocolate and started reading it but I was feeling the effects of the new medication and almost fell asleep with my face in the book. I think I will have to go back and read it all over again. I also got further in Fragile Things. I didn't think I would read more of it but I have been. I think I even liked the one story, The Flints of Memory Lane. There are currently 8 books in my to read pile. Coraline, Atonement, Sebastian, Belladonna, City of Bones, Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town, Lock and Key and Tithe. I'm not so sure about the Cory Doctorow book. It sounds a bit out there... we will have to wait and see.
Tonight I think David and I are going to watch Enchanted. Last summer was hard with me always being in the hospital so I didn't get to see it then. It's weird not having hockey to watch anymore. I miss Vesa. I guess this just gives me more time to read.
Before I read Wicked Lovely I was rereading The Host again and I loved it as much on the second read as I did on the first. I read all the signing questions on Twilight Lexicon and I am really excited about the prospect that this could be a trilogy. I really am hoping that it is. I know Stephenie Meyer is taking next year off to write and I hope she gets the urge to revisit Wanderer.
I got the 1st chapter of Breaking Dawn the other day. Belle found it had been leaked on the internet. I was really excited to read it but it made me immediately aware of the fact that Bella drives me nuts. She waffles and wars over the silliest of things. Edward apparently buys her a new car, a Mercedes Guardian, because the truck dies and she is embarrassed by it. She's not embarrassed to ride in a truck that no doubt kills emissions standards but a nice car is too much for her. And she is still belaboring the getting married thing when she is the one who insisted on it after Edward tells her that he rescinded his demands. The girl is marrying Edward Cullen, her dream guy, you think she could pull it together and be happy about it. The first chapter just made me want to devour the whole book. I don't know really if I can make it the 65 days until it comes out. I guess I can reread my Twilight Saga and The Host and pretend that time is passing more quickly.
Today, well yesterday I guess, was Twilight Tuesday and I actually wasn't disappointed in the article this week. I thought it was a nice little grab bag of some really dorky questions. I especially loved the RPattz one. I think I could call the guy Spunk Ransom. Although D thinks it sounds like a porn star name. I think we are going to go to the red carpet for the MTV awards on Sunday. It should be interesting to see what can be seen. I hope that we do see Rob there. Kristen I could take or leave. I was talking to D and I can't even really name that many good movies from the last year. Stardust should win something though. Just so Ben Barnes could maybe get some love. I realize Charlie Cox is the star but Ben is cuter.
